Hair Straightening Tips

Many women with curly or wavy hair are always on the lookout for new hair straightening tips. With many straightening methods available, you can choose chemical procedures for long-term results or temporary straightening techniques for special occasions. With a good hair dryer, a styling brush and a bit of perseverance, a straight style is easy to achieve.

Your straightening iron

Straightening irons come in many varieties and materials. If you really want to pamper your tresses, opt for a ceramic straightening model. The ceramic plates heat up more uniformly to maintain the natural moisture within hair. The end result is smoother, glossier hair that resists frizz and static electricity.

Your hair health

Make sure your hair is completely dry prior to applying a hot iron. Damp hair is more likely to break, and using a hot iron before hair dries opens the hair cuticle and harms the cortex. Whenever possible, let hair air dry instead of using a blow dryer to avoid overexposure to heat.

Your styling tools

Apply a straightening serum or protein treatment before styling hair, and focus the products on the ends of the strands. This provides additional protection for hair and adds shine and bounce. If you desire extremely straight hair, section off parts of the hair and straighten small sections at a time. For styling in a hurry, just straighten the top layer of your hair. The bottom layers are less likely to show.

Your product storage

Use care when storing a curling iron or straightener. Do not wrap the cord around the iron; it can damage the hardware to shorten the life span of the product. Make sure all hair products and styling tools are placed in a cool, dry area. Do not keep perishable products for more than a year.
